One of the most fun ways to get a peek into another person’s life is to experience their city like a local would -- with a homebase in a their space. LifeSwap takes the fun of living how a stranger does one step further. We’ve teamed up with AirBnB to give you a taste of what it’s like to step into someone else’s shoes. We can safely say that this is the best giveaway of any SXSW party around.
Day 4 is about the word on every marketer’s mouth. Everyone’s focusing on it, but it’s not a focused word. What does it mean exactly? Why does it matter? And how do we do it right? Attend small group workshops about mobile ads, mobile responsive site and mobile app development. Learn about the rapid rise of mobile browsing (and what that means to us) in our interactive globe installation. And hear from Ruth McCarthy, Founder of Mobili Media, about how to get caught up -- and then get ahead.
In partnership with EXPO Chicago, and in coordination with EXPO Art Week's Art After Hours, Workshop 4200 is proud to present Find Your Way, new works by Matthew Hoffman.
For Find Your Way, Chicago artist Matthew Hoffman has constructed a multi-room, site specific installation at Workshop 4200. This one weekend only event will showcase a new batch of 2D & 3D works, and act as the launch of Workshop 4200. Much of the work focuses on the You Are Beautiful project, including large installations & collaborative works curated by The Bright Side. Other pieces in the exhibition show Hoffman’s more experimental work, both in phrases & materials used.
Â
This exhibition also serves as a glimpse into the process of how to make a career in the creative world. From oversized outdoor installations, to large art pieces, to small editions and merchandise - Find Your Way offers the many ways you can be creative & make a living at the same time. In today’s world, it’s never been easier to create the world you want to live in, and find a community that feels the same way.
Â
Experience Matthew's work and join the festivities! The Opening Night Reception Party will be on Friday, September 15th. Doors will open to the at 7pm and stay open until 11pm.
Matthew Hoffman is a Chicago based artist & designer whose public works have been exhibited internationally. His ideas and work have been included in Good, the New York Times Magazine, and Ready Made. He has been published in books by Gestalten, Droog, and Taschen, and was featured in a segment on the Oprah network.
Â
Matthew has created large scale public installations for the City of Chicago, Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy, Albright Knox Gallery, as well as companies like Facebook, Zappos, Groupon, & Cards Against Humanity. There are close to 30 outdoor installations currently up in the Chicagoland area.
Â
Matthew is the Custodian of You Are Beautiful, a project to better the world in little ways. The message has reached every corner of the globe, with over 4 million stickers shared by the community. The hope is for us to share uplifting thoughts with each other.
Â
Outside of large public works, YAB is a small but mighty team that creates art & design edition objects to interact with your daily life. These items & custom work are available directly through our online shop, as well as museum stores such as LACMA, MASS MoCA, Mattress Factory, and online at UncommonGoods.
My hope with Find Your Way, is that it’s a space to feel good, and that you'll feel better when you leave. Making work, and sharing your ideas with the world can be often intimidating. But I believe if you’re generous enough, and confident with the ideas you share - people will give you the benefit of the doubt to listen. That’s all we can ask for.
I make work to help myself, & help myself care again. When these ideas are shared and appreciated by the world at large, it shows us how this is needed. I’m often conflicted that positivity can be so disruptive. Don’t get me wrong - I couldn’t feel stronger about making a protest against all the negativity in the world - I love causing trouble in a positive way. I recently realized that the rareness of these messages is makes them so powerful. I just wish it wasn’t so rare.
Â
I wish positivity was everywhere. I don’t think there could ever be a point of oversaturation. I feel that hopeful messages need to be repeated over and over again, especially in the current climate.
Â
So, come get lost. Take an adventure. Journey through a treasure of oversized playthings, wonder at it all. And maybe, just maybe...find your way.
